Job summary

The AES Corporation, a leading US-based power company, seeks a Senior Substation Engineer to oversee HV design and EPC execution for renewable projects in the Eastern US. You will ensure HV substations meet interconnection requirements, coordinate with EPCs, utilities, and ISO, and drive successful project delivery.

Ideal candidates bring 7+ years in HV design, strong leadership, and a solid grasp of grid integration for renewables.

Qualifications

• B.S. Electrical Engineering with emphasis on Power Systems.
• 7+ years of substation design experience (Physical or P&C).
• 2+ years of project engineering experience in an HV related role.
• Proficient reading of schematics for HV breakers, Main Power Transformers, etc.
• Basic knowledge of load flow, insulation coordination, grounding, arc-flash, TOV, harmonics.
• Basic understanding of grid integration requirements for renewables.
• Strong communication skills and ability to lead technical discussions among HV EPCs, Power Utilities, and internal stakeholders.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize projects and tasks.

Responsibilities

• Oversee EPC contractor engineering design and construction for Solar, Wind, and high voltage substations and transmission lines (35kV–500kV).
• Establish and maintain relationships with high voltage contractors.
• Review Substation EPC designs for interconnection requirements and reliability standards compliance.
• Provide design review and advise on technically incorrect issues.
• Review power system studies (load flows, short circuits, harmonics, TOV, insulation coordination).
• Coordinate with interconnection providers to design collectors per Transmission Provider requirements.
• Support substation commissioning by reviewing testing procedures with utility/ISO.
• Collaborate with project team across management, development, interconnection, permitting, finance, and construction in the field.
• Travel and fieldwork approximately 25%; projects mainly in Eastern/Central US.
