Job summary

Arup is seeking a Senior Substation Designer to lead HV substation design for power utilities, renewables, and data centers. The role supports delivery from concept through design completion for utilities, contractors, and developers.

The position can be based on the West Coast or South offices, with a focus on collaboration across disciplines and adherence to IEEE/ANSI standards. Arup offers a robust benefits package, profit sharing, and flexible work arrangements.

Qualifications

• Associate Degree in technology or related discipline with at least 6 years of related experience.
• Experience in 15kV–345kV utility substations and IEEE/ANSI standards.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and MicroStation; BIM tools preferred (Inventor, SDS-P4A, Primtech).

Responsibilities

• Prepare 3D models and 2D drawings of HV substations (single-line diagrams, layouts, cables, grounding, lighting, BOMs).
• Lead, coach and mentor junior designers and CAD technicians.
• Coordinate with other disciplines for fully coordinated designs.
• Collaborate with engineers and incorporate feedback into design packages.
• Interpret and apply design codes and client specifications.
• Follow company and project drafting standards; implement design changes and redlines.
• Organize revisions and maintain project drawings and models.
• Ensure project information is stored logically and securely.
