Job summary

Arup seeks a Senior Substation Designer to deliver HV substation designs for utilities, renewables, and data centers from concept to design completion.

You will create 3D models and 2D drawings, mentor junior designers, coordinate with engineers, and ensure compliance with IEEE/ANSI and client standards.

This role offers opportunities across West Coast or Southern US offices, including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Houston, Dallas and Austin.

Qualifications

• Associate Degree in technology or related discipline and atleast 6 years of related experience.
• Proven experience in 15kV through 345kV physical utility substation design and IEEE/ANSI standards.
• Advanced understanding of design software such as AutoCAD and MicroStation.
• Experience in performing substation design in BIM software (Inventor, SDS-P4A, Primtech) is preferred.
• Ability to learn and effectively utilize new design software programs.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Tools – MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook.

Responsibilities

• Prepare 3D models and 2D drawings of HV substations including single-line diagrams, layouts, conduit and cable plans, grounding grid, lighting plans, and BOMs.
• Lead, coach and mentor junior designers and CAD technicians to deliver substation design projects.
• Coordinate with other disciplines to develop a fully coordinated design.
• Work with engineers and incorporate feedback into design package.
• Interpret and incorporate design codes and client specifications related to design requirements.
• Follow all company, client and project design and drafting standards.
• Execute changes to designs or sketches and redlines or mark-ups to project deliverables.
• Organize and maintain all revisions of project drawings and models.
