Job summary

Arup is seeking a Senior Substation Designer to deliver HV substation design for utilities, renewables, and data centers. You will produce 3D models and 2D drawings, lead CAD teams, and ensure coordination with engineers and other disciplines.

The role requires 6+ years of related experience, a technology associate degree, and proficiency in AutoCAD and MicroStation, with BIM experience in Inventor, SDS-P4A, and Primtech. Strong knowledge of IEEE/ANSI standards is essential.

Qualifications

• Associate Degree in technology or related discipline and at least 6 years of related experience.
• Experience in 15kV through 345kV physical utility substation design and IEEE/ANSI standards.
• Advanced understanding of AutoCAD and MicroStation.
• Experience in BIM software (Inventor, SDS-P4A, Primtech) is preferred.
• Ability to learn and effectively utilize new design software programs.
• Working knowledge of MS Office Tools – Word, Excel, Outlook.

Responsibilities

• Prepare 3D models and 2D drawings of HV substations including single-line diagrams, layouts, conduit and cable plans, grounding grid, lightning protection, yard lighting, and BOMs.
• Lead, coach and mentor junior designers and CAD technicians to deliver projects.
• Coordinate with other disciplines to develop a fully coordinated design.
• Work with engineers and incorporate feedback into design packages.
• Interpret and incorporate design codes and client specifications.
• Follow all design and drafting standards and procedures.
• Make changes to designs or sketches and complete redlines or markups.
• Organize revisions of drawings and ensure project information is stored logically.
