Job summary

Virginia Department of Social Services seeks a Human Services Assistant III to serve as the initial contact for clients seeking benefits and/or services. You will screen clients, interview for needs, explain programs, assist with applications, and coordinate referrals.

Responsibilities include processing forms, maintaining records, and supporting Adult Services, Foster Care, and Employment Services programs as part of a team in a public agency setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma with post-secondary coursework in social work or related field.
• Relevant work experience in public administrative support preferred.
• Ability to communicate effectively and work with diverse clients.

Responsibilities

• Screens clients for benefits and services; interviews clients and explains programs, services, policies and procedures.
• Assists clients with applications and performs initial screening of applications.
• Maintains logs of client documentation received and schedules appointments for clients to meet staff.
• Verifies hours and accuracy of time sheets for in-home providers; prepares vouchers for ongoing expenditures.
