Job summary

GrayMatter Robotics, headquartered in Los Angeles with a Carson HQ, seeks an experienced HR Generalist to own the employee experience from onboarding to offboarding. You will drive culture, compliance, and scalable processes in a fast-growing robotics startup.

Based onsite in Carson 4 days a week, you will manage payroll, benefits reconciliation, and HR operations while leveraging AI tools to streamline HR workflows and reporting.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of HR, people operations, or similar roles.
• 2+ years building company-wide processes within the same company.
• 2+ years in a technology startup or tech company.
• Proven knowledge of multi-state employment compliance, especially California.
• Power-user level proficiency in UKG or a comparable HRIS, including configuration and reporting.
• Experience using AI tools to accelerate HR work, from reporting to communications.
• Experience in payroll administration and benefits reconciliation.
• Proven track record guiding managers through terminations and difficult personnel decisions.
• Excellent communication, project management, and interpersonal skills.
• Authorized to work in the United States through duration of employment.

Responsibilities

• Own the entire employee experience from onboarding to offboarding.
• Lead employee engagement efforts, surveys, recognition, and internal comms.
• Run payroll end-to-end and reconcile benefits.
• Maintain and update the employee handbook and HR policies.
• Lead investigations and manage HR risk and audits.
• Manage HR operations and systems (UKG, HRIS data integrity, analytics).
• Build scalable processes and automation to support growth.
• Support interview scheduling, candidate hosting, and events.
