Job summary

GrayMatter Robotics, headquartered in Los Angeles, seeks an experienced HR Generalist to own the employee experience from onboarding to offboarding and beyond. The role emphasizes hands-on people systems, compliance, and culture-building in a fast-growing robotics startup.

Based onsite at our Carson HQ four days a week, you will lead relations, payroll, benefits, and HR operations, leveraging UKG and AI tools to scale processes while partnering with stakeholders across the organization.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience in HR, people operations, or similar roles.
• 2+ years building company-wide processes from scratch within the same company.
• 2+ years working at a technology startup or technology company.
• Proven knowledge of multi-state employment compliance (especially California).
• Power-user level proficiency in UKG or a comparable HRIS (e.g., ADP, Paylocity, Workday).
• Demonstrated fluency using AI tools to accelerate day-to-day HR work.
• Proven ability to think strategically and develop innovative HR solutions.
• Must have authorization to work in the United States through duration of employment.

Responsibilities

• Lead employee relations, engagement, and internal communications.
• Oversee payroll end-to-end and benefits reconciliation.
• Ensure HR compliance and risk management across states.
• Maintain and optimize HRIS systems and reporting (UKG focus).
• Deliver HR metrics and drive automation to scale operations.
