Job summary

HEF is seeking a Director of Human Resources to lead staffing, payroll, benefits, and compliance for a large, mostly part-time workforce across 15 afterschool sites. This hands-on role requires deep HR knowledge, strong interpersonal skills, and meticulous attention to deadlines.

You will manage talent acquisition, onboarding, payroll processing in ADP Workforce Now, benefits administration, and 403(b) retirement plan matters while ensuring childcare licensing compliance and staff-to-student

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in HR or related field or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of progressive HR experience including senior/generalist roles; recruiting experience required.
• Minimum 3 years of payroll administration experience; ADP experience preferred.
• Experience managing employee benefits programs including enrollment cycles, vendor invoicing, COBRA compliance.
• Experience with 403(b) or similar retirement plans, including employer match mechanics and ERISA basics.

Responsibilities

• Lead talent acquisition process: posting, resume review, initial interviews, onboarding and offboarding.
• Administer payroll, benefits, and 403(b) retirement plan administration; ensure accuracy.
• Ensure HR compliance with federal, state, and local laws; maintain licensing records.
• Coordinate daily staffing across 15 afterschool sites; adjust schedules to meet coverage and licensing.
• Collaborate with program leaders on employee engagement and retention initiatives.
