Job summary

Westside Federation of Senior & Supportive Housing is seeking an Assistant Cook in New York, NY to support meal preparation, service, and cleanup for senior residents.

Under supervision of the Food Service Manager and Cook 2, you will follow evaluated recipes, ensure safety standards, and assist with deliveries and storage. Requires NYC Food Handlers Certificate and at least 6 months cooking experience.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a commercial kitchen.
• Ability to prepare nutritious and appealing meals for residents.
• Ability to operate independently in the Cook’s absence.
• Proficient written and oral communication skills.
• Strong organizational, time management and interpersonal skills.
• Team-focused with ability to work with others.
• Interest in working with an aging population.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and distribute meals to senior residents as part of a team.
• Follow DOH-approved recipes and safety guidelines.
• Clean food service areas, equipment, and dining spaces.
• Adhere to NYC DOH time/temperature and storage guidelines.
• Accept and store deliveries in compliance with DOH rules.
• Handle and temp-control prepared foods safely.
• Receive and date-store food items.
• Attend department meetings and assist in dining room monitoring.
