Job summary

The Manhattan Nursing Home is seeking 2 part-time Cook's Helpers to support the Food and Nutrition Department. This role involves assisting the cook, preparing meals for various diets, and ensuring safe temperatures and portion control.

You will report to the Executive Chef and work two days per week on day and evening shifts at 120 West, 106th Street, NY 10025. Prior kitchen experience is helpful but not required.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of basic food handling and safety practices.
• Ability to follow sanitation guidelines and departmental policies.
• Willingness to cooperate with kitchen staff and other departments.

Responsibilities

• Review menus prior to food preparation.
• Pre-preparation of meat, vegetables, etc., according to the planned menu.
• Serve food following portion control procedures.
• Prepare food for chopped and puree diets.
• Ensure food temperatures meet guidelines before service.
• Time food preparation to meet service schedules.
• Maintain a warm, caring atmosphere in the department.
• Follow infection control policies and safety regulations.
