Job summary

West Side Federation for Senior and Supportive Housing, Inc. (WSFSSH) is hiring a full‑time Cook I to prepare meals for residents on site.

You will work with a team to follow dietitian‑provided recipes, manage temperatures, portion controls, and ensure safety standards in a NYC housing setting. The role requires a minimum of 6 months in a kitchen, a high school diploma or GED, and a City of New York food handler certification.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a commercial kitchen.
• Ability to prepare nutritious and appealing meals for residents.
• Ability to follow kitchen procedures and protocols.
• Proficient written and oral communication skills.
• Excellent organizational ability and time management.
• Team oriented and able to work with others.
• Desire to work in senior housing and support residents.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and create meals following standardized recipes from the Dietitian.
• Document temperatures of food, freezer, and refrigerator as required.
• Follow portion and serving guidelines from the Food Service Manager.
• Assist in receiving deliveries and store per NYC DOH regulations.
• Distribute meals to residents adhering to food safety standards.
• Clean work areas, equipment, kitchen, storage, and dining areas.
• Follow NYC DOH and Mental Hygiene food safety procedures.
• Meet with supervisors regularly to discuss food service.
• Monitor dining room during meals as needed.
• Cover Cook II when required and assist in cleanup.
