Job summary

The Iowa DOT is seeking a Highway Technician Associate to perform roadside maintenance, patch roadway, repair guardrails, signs, fences, and assist with traffic control. This role supports safety and cleanliness of state roads.

You will work 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday, with potential on-call duties for emergencies and some overnight travel. Entry-level driver training is provided, including pre-employment checks and pesticide certifications as needed.

Qualifications

• CDL permit required upon hire.
• Class A endorsements within 5 months following hire date.
• Entry-level driver training available upon hire through the Iowa DOT.
• Pre-employment physical and drug screen required.
• May be required to obtain pesticide/herbicide certifications or other certifications as needed.

Responsibilities

• Patching roadway.
• Repairing and maintaining guardrails, signs, fences, lighting, culverts, and waterways.
• Participating in traffic control for maintenance activities.
• Picking up and disposing of litter and debris.
• Operating snow equipment to remove snow, ice and frost from roadways.
• Mowing, cutting brush, weed and vegetation control and spraying.
