Job summary

GFT in New York, NY is seeking a Senior Highway Designer to lead roadway engineering on complex projects for NYSDOT, NYCDOT, and other agencies. The role offers a hybrid work model with regular office attendance.

You'll develop design concepts, manage multidisciplinary teams, mentor junior staff, and ensure projects meet schedule and quality targets while coordinating with permitting and client stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
• 3+ years of highway and roadway design experience with increasing responsibility.
• Proficient in MicroStation, OpenRoads, and Microsoft Office.
• New York or New Jersey client design experience (NYSDOT, NYCDOT, PANYNJ, NYSTA, MTA, NJDOT, NJTA).
• Strong highway design skills with ability to train and mentor junior staff.

Responsibilities

• Lead roadway design concepts and technical direction on major tasks.
• Coordinate design activities across bridge, transit, environmental, geotechnical and civil/site teams.
• Prepare and review plans, specifications, and estimates including roadway geometry, drainage, and traffic maintenance.
