Job summary

GFT is seeking a Highway Project Engineer to join our Transportation group in Morristown, NJ, East Brunswick, NJ, or Marlton, NJ. The role operates on a hybrid schedule with in-office attendance at one of the NJ offices.

You will contribute to design and development of roadway projects across New Jersey, supporting NJDOT/NJTA work under senior engineers. Lead design tasks, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and grow technical and client-facing experience in transportation infrastructure.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in civil engineering is required.
Professional Engineer (PE) license in New Jersey, or ability to obtain by reciprocity within one year.
8-10 years of engineering experience with transportation design.
Proficient in MicroStation, OpenRoads, and Microsoft Office.
NJDOT or NJTA design experience.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

Perform engineering design tasks for roadway projects from concept development to final design, including construction support.
Develop plans, specifications, cost estimates, reports, and final bid packages.
Establish relationships with client staff and project managers.
Provide design services on design-bid-build and design-build highway projects.
Mentor junior engineers and coordinate multi-discipline teams.
Oversee scheduling, budgeting, and QA/QC of subconsultants and internal staff.
Lead projects to meet schedule and budget goals.
Assist project managers with various tasks.
