Job summary

GFT is seeking a Highway Project Engineer to join our Transportation group with offices in Morristown, East Brunswick, or Marlton, NJ. This hybrid role requires regular in-person work in NJ offices and involves leading roadway design efforts for NJDOT, NJTA, and other agencies.

You will design highway projects, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, mentor junior staff, and ensure on-time, on-budget delivery while maintaining high-quality standards in transportation infrastructure work.

Qualifications

• Must hold a Civil Engineering degree; NJ PE license or ability to obtain within one year.
• 8-10 years of transportation design experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with a collaborative, team-oriented mindset.

Responsibilities

• Perform engineering design tasks for roadway projects from concept development to final design, including construction support.
• Develop plans, specifications, cost estimates, reports, and prepare final bid packages.
• Establish working relationships and contact with client technical staff and project managers.
• Provide engineering design services on traditional design-bid-build projects and design-build highway projects.
• Manage and mentor junior engineers on project assignments.
• Coordinate design activities and meetings between design staff, subconsultants, and client managers.
• Coordinate budgeting, scheduling, and QA/QC of subconsultants and internal staff.
• Participate in project decisions regarding technical approaches, cost and scheduling performance.
• Lead projects and complete tasks within schedule and budget with cross-disciplinary teams.
• Assist project managers with other various tasks.
