Job summary

GFT seeks a Senior Traffic Engineer / Project Manager to lead traffic engineering and design on transportation projects across New York City and Long Island. This role supports the Transportation group with a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at Woodbury, NY or New York, NY offices.

You will mentor junior engineers, coordinate with clients and agencies, and ensure designs meet MUTCD and NYSDOT standards while delivering safe, efficient mobility for communities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering required.
• PE license in New York or ability to obtain reciprocity within six months.
• 8–12 years of progressive experience in traffic engineering, signals, and transportation design.

Responsibilities

• Lead traffic engineering and design tasks from initiation through construction support.
• Manage analyses and simulations using Synchro/SimTraffic, VISSIM, HCS and related tools.
• Prepare traffic impact studies, memoranda, and recommendations.
• Apply MUTCD, NYSDOT/NYCDOT standards to design signing, signaling, and MOT plans.
• Develop and review traffic signal plans, phasing, timing, and interconnections.
• Coordinate with clients, agencies and multidisciplinary teams; mentor junior staff.
• Support project managers with scope, scheduling, and budgeting.
