Job summary

Firstsource is seeking an HELOC Loan Underwriter to serve as the credit decision authority for our home equity line of credit program. You will evaluate applicants against lending policy, document decisions, and ensure compliance under NCUA examination.

You will analyze the Four Cs—Credit, Capacity, Capital, and Collateral—issue actionable conditions, and support processing teams to move files forward with clear rationale and defensible decisions.

Qualifications

• 4+ years mortgage underwriting experience, 2+ years in HELOC underwriting.
• Expert income and asset analysis aligned with policy.
• Familiar with Encompass LOS, eFolder, and milestone tracking.
• Strong written rationale for credit decisions and conditions.

Responsibilities

• Review HELOC loan files and issue conditions for approval or denial per policy and regulations.
• Conduct comprehensive credit analysis including FICO, income, and collateral.
• Calculate qualifying income across wage, self-employed, and other types; perform DTI calculations.
• Evaluate collateral and lien positions; flag appraisal concerns with supervisor.
• Provide clear decision rationale in Encompass; respond to condition clearance within 24 hours.
