Job summary

Hillis-Carnes Engineering Associates, Inc. seeks a Sr. Project Engineer to lead geotechnical engineering and construction materials testing projects across the region.

You will mentor staff, support field operations, and provide client-facing technical leadership on challenging assignments. The role emphasizes independent technical work, proposal preparation, data interpretation, and strong client service. This position offers bonus eligibility and a clear path toward executive-level

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
• P.E. license is required.
• Minimum 8–10 years of progressive geotechnical engineering or consulting experience.
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with clients and internal/external parties.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Outlook.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage Geotechnical Engineering projects under supervision of a Principal.
• Work independently with guidance as needed.
• Lead and manage CMT projects, including ones from the Geotechnical phase.
• Prepare technical proposals, cost estimates, reports, specifications, and correspondence.
• Review and interpret laboratory and field data for reports and recommendations.
• Represent the firm in client meetings and coordinate with clients, contractors, vendors, regulators, and internal teams.
• Support business development by maintaining client relationships and participating in professional organizations.
