Job summary

Hillis-Carnes Engineering Associates is seeking a Project Engineer II to provide technical leadership in geotechnical engineering and construction materials testing, supporting a diverse regional portfolio.

The successful candidate will mentor junior staff, oversee projects under a Principal, and contribute to business development while ensuring safety and quality in field and office activities. The role offers growth toward Senior Project Engineer with strong performance.

Qualifications

• BS degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related field.
• 5–8 years of progressive geotechnical engineering or consulting experience.
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
• Strong communication with clients and internal/external parties.
• Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Experience with RocScience, Ensoft, Tablogs, etc.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage Geotechnical Engineering projects under the supervision of a Principal.
• Lead and manage CMT projects, particularly ones you were involved with in the Geotechnical phase.
• Prepare proposals, cost estimates, engineering reports, specifications, and correspondence.
• Review lab and field test data for reports and recommendations.
• Represent the firm in client meetings.
• Coordinate with clients, contractors, vendors, regulatory agencies, and internal teams.
• Support business development and client relationships.
• Support branch operations and safety/compliance requirements.
