Job summary

Markel is seeking a seasoned General Liability Claims Manager in the United States to lead a team of examiners, ensure coverage decisions, and drive performance aligned with company objectives. The role reports to the Senior Director of General Liability claims and emphasizes collaboration with underwriting and actuarial teams.

The candidate will review reserves, settlements, and loss activity, while developing staff through training and feedback. Travel to other offices may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
• JD, advanced degree, or focused technical degree a plus

Responsibilities

• Confirms coverage of claims by reviewing policies and documents submitted in support of claims
• Direct and monitor assignments of new loss activity for claims
• Review and approve correspondence and reports including coverage position letters and Large Loss Reports
• Review and approve reserves and settlements in excess of the authority of the handling examiner
• Make recommendations concerning reserve changes to Senior Director or Senior Management
• Participate in review and discussion of loss activity in the general liability book with stakeholders
• Ensure team adheres to Fair Claims Practices regulations and internal performance objectives
• Assess and evaluate examiner and team performance, provide feedback and training needs
• Prepare and distribute reports by collecting and summarizing information
• Assist in preparation of budgets, evaluation of expenses and resource needs
• Foster relationships with internal stakeholders including Underwriting and Actuarial
• Promote relationships with internal and external customers and partners
• Participate in special projects and travel to other claim offices as required
