Job summary

GBMC HealthCare is seeking an experienced scheduler for surgical procedures in Baltimore. The role supports operating room scheduling, patient registration and billing within the EMR system, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in daily operations.

The ideal candidate has at least a high school diploma, 2 years medical experience (surgical posting preferred) and strong communication skills to coordinate with physicians, nurses and administrative staff across departments.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Minimum 2 years medical experience; surgical posting experience preferred.
• Knowledge of HMOs, PPOs, Medicare, BC/BS and commercial restrictions.
• Familiarity with CPT and ICD-10 codes and medical terminology.
• Proficient in scheduling, registration and billing in EMR systems.
• Strong written and oral communication; team-oriented.
• Ability to perform non-complex arithmetic and manage multiple deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Reserve operating rooms; schedule related equipment; post patients for procedures.
• Cancel scheduled cases timely; notify affected individuals of changes.
• Prepare and reproduce master operating room schedules; distribute copies.
• Maintain patient admission/surgery records and filing systems.
• Inform physicians' offices of prerequisites and insurance requirements.
• Coordinate with surgeons and hospital departments for scheduling and tests.
• Pre-register patients; verify insurance coverage and authorizations.
• Handle patient communications and appointment reminders; respond to inquiries.
• Maintain scheduling and billing systems; address inquiries and optimize processes.
