Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Corrections is seeking a supervisory food service lead to assist in operating the inmate food program. You will participate in interviews, hires, and terminations, and train staff across sanitation and duties.

You will supervise food service personnel, manage personnel activities for staff and inmates, and maintain security of cafeteria equipment while ensuring accurate orders and deliveries.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; 5 years of quantity and quality cooking experience.
• Must be HACCP or ServSafe certified or obtain within 6 months of employment.
• Must be certified by SCDC Training Academy or complete SCDC basic training upon hire.
• Must complete basic course within 18 months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Assist in managing and directing the operation of food service and participate in interviews, hires, evaluates, and terminates inmates.
• Train staff in all duties, including sanitation.
• Supervise food service personnel in daily duties.
• Handle personnel activities for assigned employees and inmates.
• Maintain security of cafeteria equipment and assist as correctional officer during shakedowns and inmate escorts; ensure accurate food orders and deliveries.
• Assist with cooks' worksheets, SCDC master menu, and records retention for five years.
• Manage fiscal records for budgeting purposes.
• Ensure compliance with safety, health, and fire inspection guidelines; oversee maintenance work orders.
