Job summary

The State of South Carolina Department of Corrections is seeking a qualified kitchen supervisor to manage civilian and inmate food service staff. You will oversee hiring, training, daily operations, and security within the cafeteria, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.

You will coordinate with inmate committees, maintain accurate cook worksheets, and assure timely preparation and delivery of meals while meeting inspection requirements.

Qualifications

• Related food service experience.
• (Must) quantity and quality cooking experience.
• Must hold or attain SERV Safe Manager certification within six months.
• Must be certified by SC Department of Corrections training academy or complete SCDC basic training upon hire.
• Must complete basic supervisory courses within eighteen months.

Responsibilities

• Interviews, hires, evaluates and terminates all civilian and inmate food service employees.
• Trains and instructs all employees in all phases of their duties.
• Supervises all personnel in the performance of their daily duties.
• Acts as officer in maintaining internal security of cafeteria.
• Works with inmate representative committee to resolve problems and complaints.
• Responsible for the accurate preparation of all food orders weekly and accurate deliveries.
• Prepares cook's work sheet per SCDC master menu and maintains records for 5 years.
• Meets with health, fire & OSHA inspections.
• Ensures maintenance/repair work on cafeteria equipment is performed.
