Job summary

Muon Space in Silicon Valley seeks a Sr. Software Engineering Manager to lead the flight software platform for on-orbit systems. You will develop people, processes, and technical direction to deliver scalable, reliable systems and work with customers and mission operations to ensure robust integration.

The role is hybrid and requires on-site presence in San Jose, CA three days per week, with a focus on building and operating mission-critical software and services.

Qualifications

• BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent industry experience.
• 5+ years of software engineering experience and 2+ years of people management.
• Significant experience with C++, Python or Rust.
• Strong background in embedded systems (RTOS and/or Linux).
• Proven track record delivering mission-critical software with high uptime.
• Experience defining technical direction and leading cross-functional teams.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and grow a software engineering team responsible for core flight software.
• Set team goals and technical roadmaps aligned with company priorities.
• Ensure reliability, scalability, and performance of mission-critical services.
• Translate mission needs into clear requirements and technical specs.
• Promote engineering best practices, design reviews, testing, and observability.
• Manage team capacity, staffing, hiring, and performance development.
• Foster a culture of ownership and pragmatic delivery.
