Job summary

Muon Space in San Jose, CA is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead the team building the flight software platform for on-orbit satellites. You will guide core flight operations software, services, and tools that enable communications, telemetry, power management, sensor and payload operation, and system orchestration.

You will develop people, processes, and technical direction to deliver scalable, reliable systems, collaborating closely with customers and mission operations.

Qualifications

• BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of software engineering experience with 2+ years in leadership.
• Strong background in C++, Python or Rust and embedded systems (RTOS/Linux).
• Experience delivering mission-critical software with uptime expectations.
• Ability to drive technical direction and execution with a team.
• Excellent communication with cross-functional stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and grow a software engineering team responsible for core flight software development.
• Define team goals and roadmaps aligned with company priorities.
• Ensure reliability, scalability, and performance of production services.
• Translate mission needs into clear technical requirements and specs.
• Promote design reviews, code quality, testing, and observability.
• Manage staffing, hiring, coaching, and performance development.
• Foster a culture of technical ownership and pragmatic delivery.
