Job summary

Muon Space seeks a Staff Mission Lead Systems Engineer to guide mission formulation and drive architecture trades. You will own end-to-end technical success from concept through on-orbit operations for high-reliability missions and interface with customers and cross-functional teams.

You will work in a hybrid role, on-site in San Jose three days a week, leading system modeling, requirements, and CONOPS across disciplines and supporting government and commercial customers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor-level engineering degree required.
  • 10+ years in complex systems, mission architecture, or spacecraft design.
  • Experience as a technical lead on complex systems for USG/IC or commercial customers.
  • Experience with USG/IC acquisition programs and space-system standards.
  • Strong understanding of USG/IC contracts and artifacts.
  • Experience supporting government proposals (RFI/RFP).
  • Extensive modeling, analysis, and simulations experience.
  • Proven system integration and delivery of complex systems.
  • Formal requirements management for multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Project management and cross-discipline collaboration skills.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and coordination abilities.
  • Active TS/SCI security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Mission Architecture during study efforts to develop mission concepts and shape baselines.
  • Develop and maintain mission-level system models across architecture, requirements, interfaces, and behavior.
  • Serve as the ultimate technical authority for the designated mission and lead cross-functional trades.
  • Lead tailoring and implementation of the Muon mission design process for the mission.
  • Translate customer objectives into clear, verifiable technical requirements.
  • Interface with customers, partners, and internal stakeholders on technical matters.
  • Manage requirements traceability, verification, and validation.
  • Define mission CONOPS and manage subsystem budgets.
  • Identify and mitigate mission risks and coordinate design changes.
  • Lead design reviews and monitor on-orbit performance as needed.
