Job summary

Muon Space in San Jose, CA is seeking an Engineering Manager, Avionics to lead the core avionics team—flight computers, power systems, ADCS and related electronics—with a hands-on leadership style. You will drive architecture, review schematics, set design quality, grow the team, and collaborate with software, mechanical, thermal, and production groups to ensure seamless hardware/software integration.

This hybrid role requires onsite presence three days per week in San Jose, offering competitive

Qualifications

  • 8+ years designing complex, high-reliability electronics in harsh environments.
  • 2+ years leading engineering teams.
  • Hands-on electrical design: architecture, schematic capture, PCB layout, and board bring-up.
  • Deep understanding across avionics domains: embedded processing, power conversion, batteries, and control electronics.
  • Experience taking boards from concept through qualification and production.
  • Strong hardware/software integration: microcontrollers and interfaces (UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and presentation skills; able to move between team leadership and hands-on engineering.
  • B.S. or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow the avionics design team and plan resourcing across concurrent development efforts.
  • Own delivery of Muon's core avionics—from architecture through design, qualification, and production support.
  • Drive the avionics roadmap: improve performance, reliability, cost, and standardization.
  • Stay hands-on: contribute to architecture, review schematics/layouts, and support bring-up and debug.
  • Set and uphold electrical design standards—design reviews, derating, documentation, ECO/DCO discipline.
  • Own avionics qualification and test strategies, partnering with Hardware Reliability & Test.
  • Partner with embedded software, mechanical, thermal, systems, and production teams for integration.
  • Invest in developing engineers through coaching and growth planning.
