Job summary

SOLV Energy is seeking a Principal Fire Protection Engineer to lead fire and life safety across utility-scale energy storage and power projects. You will ensure compliance with NFPA, IBC, and insurer requirements from concept through commissioning in a fully remote role.

Responsibilities include establishing engineering standards, guiding risk mitigation, coordinating with AHJs and 3rd party EORs, and supporting design optimization and testing. Travel may be up to 25% as needed.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of fire protection engineering experience with at least 2 years in energy infrastructure
• Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering or related discipline
• PE license in Fire Protection Engineering preferred
• Experience working with AHJs to secure approvals and navigate permitting
• Strong knowledge of NFPA, IBC, UL 9540/9540A, UL855

Responsibilities

• Provide expert guidance on fire safety challenges and risk mitigation.
• Establish company-wide engineering standards, design criteria, and best practices.
• Lead involvement in national fire protection code committees and standards for energy storage fire safety.
• Interface with AHJs, fire marshals, insurers and engineers; travel as needed.
• Oversee fire protection system design and basis-of-design documents.
• Develop scopes of work and evaluation criteria for 3rd party EORs and vendors.
• Manage schedules and budgets for fire protection deliverables.
• QA/QC of 3rd party work products to ensure standards compliance.
• Collaborate with electrical/SCADA teams for design consistency.
• Support fire system testing and commissioning.
