Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer to design fire protection systems and support life safety on diverse projects. You will work with federal requirements, review designs for compliance, and mentor junior engineers.

The role offers a hybrid work environment with options across multiple US offices, including opportunities to collaborate with sales and clients on RFPs and proposals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Architectural or Chemical Engineering, or related discipline.
• Professional engineering (PE) license.
• 7 years of related experience in fire protection engineering.
• Equivalent additional directly related experience considered in lieu of a degree.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities

• Develop fire protection engineering designs, including layouts and hydraulic analyses.
• Act as QFPE for federal projects and assess life safety and fire suppression systems.
• Review designs for compliance with federal, state and local regs and sign off.
• Create fire protection and life safety designs and evaluations as needed.
• Evaluate systems using HydraCAD, HydraCALC or similar software.
• Collaborate with sales to prepare proposals and review draft RFP responses.
• Meet with clients to understand current and future design needs.
• Provide guidance and training to junior staff and supervise engineers on projects.
