Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer to design reliable fire protection systems for federal and commercial projects. You will develop comprehensive fire protection designs, perform life safety analysis, and ensure compliance with NFPA/UFC standards while mentoring junior staff.

The role offers a hybrid work environment with offices in multiple cities and up to 10% travel. You will collaborate with sales and clients to define design needs and deliver effective solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Architectural or Chemical Engineering (or related).
• Professional engineer (PE) license required.
• 7 years of related experience; travel may be required.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed.

Responsibilities

• Develop fire protection designs including layouts, water supply, hydraulics, and sprinkler systems.
• Act as QFPE for federal projects with life safety and fire protection analysis.
• Review designs for compliance with NFPA/UFC and local regulations.
• Provide guidance and mentoring to junior staff on projects.
• Collaborate with sales to create compliant proposals and respond to RFPs.
• Attend meetings with clients to review design needs and project scope.
• Utilize HydraCAD/HydraCALC tools and ensure design adherence to firm policies.
