Job summary

Henderson Engineers is seeking a Senior Fire Engineer to design complex building systems, lead design teams, and mentor junior staff in Plano, TX. You will manage design documents, perform critical calculations, and coordinate with multiple disciplines throughout project lifecycles.

The role emphasizes business development, risk management, and leadership within a collaborative team. Strong Revit and Bluebeam skills, plus PE licensure, are required or strongly preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical, fire protection, or architectural) required or equivalent.
• PE license required; may count toward 1 year of experience.
• Additional certifications (e.g., BEMP, CPD, CDP, NICET, RCDD) aligned with the field preferred.
• FE exam completion preferred.
• Sustainability certifications (e.g., CDP, LEED, WELL) preferred.
• Experience with engineering design, codes, and standards across a broad practice scope.
• Knowledge of earned value, contracts, and construction processes.
• Proficiency with Revit and Bluebeam Revu.

Responsibilities

• Directs and oversees preparation of design documents, layouts, drawings, schematics and specs.
• Leads project and design efforts from concept through completion.
• Reviews shop drawings for conformance to plans.
• Performs feasibility evaluations and product recommendations.
• Produces solutions to complex engineering problems with senior input or leadership.
• Ensures drawings, reports and analyses meet scope, schedule, cost and quality targets.
• Mentors less experienced designers and engineers; oversees staff performance.
• Directs staffing decisions and project coordination activities.
• Maintains and expands knowledge, tools, and standards within the practice.
• Develops and maintains client and partner relationships to grow business.
• Participates in client and industry events to build relationships.
• Communicates requirements and scope with clients; maintains proactive project communications.
• Oversees site visits to verify conditions and observe construction progress.
• Resolves conflicts among parties as needed.
• Stays current with industry trends and evolving codes.
