Job summary

Thermo Fisher Scientific in California is seeking a seasoned Field Service Engineer to install, maintain and repair advanced microscopy systems (SEM/TEM/FIB). You will travel up to 50% to customer sites, install equipment, train users, and ensure optimal performance across labs and industries.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree and 5+ years’ hands-on experience with high-end analytical tools, strong diagnostics, and excellent communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 5+ years' hands-on experience with electronic systems (SEM/TEM/FIB).
• Strong diagnostics and repair experience with ultra-high vacuum and high voltage systems.
• Proficient in reading schematics and MS Windows environments.

Responsibilities

• Conduct on-site installation of sophisticated equipment and follow testing procedures to ensure accurate working order.
• Conduct on-site scheduled planned maintenance visits.
• Provide diagnosis and repair support for customers and other field personnel.
• Cultivate and develop positive working relationships with customers, system users, and company personnel.
• Travel, often on short notice, to customer sites to resolve problems or support other field personnel.
• Complete and submit field service reports.
• Provide training to customers and users on system maintenance.
• Provide feedback to product quality teams.
• Provide appropriate input in writing updating and correcting various Thermo Fisher system documentation.
• Provide guidance for various reports including identifying and isolating outstanding problems with the system.
• Act as a subject expert and resource for training.
