Job summary

Actalent is seeking an FEA Engineer to support advanced reactor system design through rigorous finite element analysis and structural evaluations. You will perform DBA evaluations per ASME VIII-2, assess plastic collapse, buckling, fatigue, and creep, and produce detailed calculations and reports to justify design choices.

The role requires 20+ years of experience, a BS in a related engineering field, and strong collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience performing finite element analysis and structural evaluations.
• Experience applying ASME Section VIII Division 2 Design-by-Analysis (DBA) methodologies.
• Evaluate plastic collapse, buckling, ratcheting, fatigue, and creep in pressure-retaining components.
• Strong understanding of structural mechanics and pressure vessel design.
• Proficient in static and transient FEA.
• Minimum of 20 years of relevant engineering experience.
• BS in Mechanical/Structural/Civil Eng or related field.
• Ability to prepare calculations and reports to support design and code compliance.
• Strong collaboration and communication with multidisciplinary teams.
• Attention to detail in assessing structural integrity.

Responsibilities

• Perform static structural and transient mechanical finite element analyses for pressure-retaining components.
• Conduct DBA evaluations per ASME VIII Division 2 requirements.
• Evaluate structural integrity and failure modes including collapse, buckling, fatigue and creep.
• Develop engineering calculations, reports, and documentation for design decisions.
• Support design, qualification, and code compliance for advanced reactor systems.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and communicate results clearly.
• Use simulations to validate concepts and identify design improvements.
