Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Automotive Mechanical Engineer to design and develop advanced EV mechanical systems, including chassis, suspension, powertrain components, and thermal management. You will work remotely with a cross-functional team of engineers to ensure performance and reliability across platforms.

The role emphasizes CAD/CAE design, simulation (FEA/CFD), and DFMEA-driven verification, with mentorship and international collaboration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (Master's preferred).
• 5–7 years of automotive mechanical design experience, especially EV or high-performance components.
• Proficiency with CATIA or SolidWorks and simulation tools.
• Strong knowledge of vehicle dynamics, powertrain, thermal management, and materials science.
• Experience with DFMEA, DVP&R, and automotive quality tools.
• Excellent analytical and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently in a fully remote setting.
• Legal authorization to work in South Africa.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical systems for EVs including chassis, suspension, powertrain components, and thermal management.
• Use CAD/CAE tools for design, simulation (FEA, CFD), and validation of components and assemblies.
• Collaborate with electrical, software, and battery engineers to ensure integrated performance.
• Develop and manage technical specs, DFMEAs, and verification plans.
• Conduct performance testing, data analysis, and root cause analysis for mechanical issues.
• Optimize designs for performance, manufacturability, cost, and weight reduction.
• Mentor junior engineers in a remote setting.
