Job summary

Rivian, based at the Design HQ in Irvine, CA, seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer, Chassis Systems, to drive end-to-end chassis architecture, integration, validation and failure resolution within the Rivian Chassis Vehicle Hardware Engineering team.

The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in automotive chassis components, vehicle dynamics, and cross-subsystem interactions to deliver robust engineering solutions, with a passion for EVs and adventurous vehicles.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related automotive discipline.
• 5+ years (preferred) experience in chassis or vehicle dynamics roles at an OEM.
• Detail-oriented, methodical, and results-focused.
• Familiar with DFMEA/DVPR usage.
• Strong CAD experience (CATIA V6) required.
• Experience with ADAMS or equivalent multi-body dynamics solver preferred.
• Knowledge of GD&T, materials selection, design decision matrices, root cause analysis, and manufacturing methods for suspension components.
• Solid chassis design and vehicle dynamics fundamentals.
• Excellent communication with domestic and international teams.
• Interest in EVs & Adventure Vehicles; proactive and curious.
• Self-starter with initiative and engineering judgment.
• Ability to interpret data and solve complex problems from first principles.

Responsibilities

• Develop preliminary chassis architectures for new vehicle programs.
• Maintain chassis hard points and refine geometry using CATIA V6.
• Define system-level chassis requirements through DFMEA and DVP.
• Organize chassis systems engineering meetings and cross-functional discussions.
• Perform design verification and integration studies using CAE tools.
• Lead validation tests, data collection, analysis, and reporting.
• Lead root-cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
• Refine chassis design standards for continuous improvement.
• Investigate new chassis technologies through research and benchmarking.
