Job summary

Rivian, based at our Design HQ in Irvine, CA, seeks an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer, Chassis Systems to own end-to-end chassis architecture definition and integration within the Rivian Chassis Vehicle Hardware Engineering team.

You will apply deep expertise in vehicle dynamics, chassis components, and cross-subsystem interactions to deliver robust, innovative solutions in a fast-paced, EV-focused environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related automotive discipline.
• 5+ years in chassis engineering, chassis integration, or vehicle dynamics at an OEM.
• Detail-oriented, methodical, and results-focused.
• Familiar with DFMEA/DVPR usage and review.
• Strong CAD experience; CATIA V6 preferred.
• Experience with ADAMS or similar multi‑body dynamics solver.
• Knowledge of GD&T, material selection and design decision matrices.
• Excellent communication with domestic and international teammates and suppliers.
• Genuine interest in EVs and adventure vehicles; eager to learn.
• Self-starter with initiative and engineering judgment.
• Ability to interpret data and solve problems from first principles.

Responsibilities

• Develop preliminary chassis architectures with packaging, mass, and reliability focus.
• Maintain chassis hard points and refine geometry with SMEs.
• Define system-level chassis requirements via DFMEA and DVP.
• Lead chassis systems meetings and cross-functional discussions.
• Create and maintain suspension kinematic models in CATIA for dynamic studies.
• Perform design verification and CAE studies including MBD models.
• Lead root cause analyses and corrective actions.
• Develop chassis design and test standards for standard workflows.
• Explore new chassis technologies via research and proofs of concept.
