Job summary

City of Wichita seeks a skilled equipment operator to perform heavy and specialized automotive tasks and supervise a crew in maintenance or construction. The role involves running equipment such as street sweepers, graders, backhoes, dump trucks, and other machinery under supervision, with potential to fill in for a supervisor as needed.

You must have two years of experience operating heavy equipment and a valid Kansas Class A CDL with tanker endorsement or ability to obtain within 60 days.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience operating heavy or specialized automotive equipment in construction or maintenance.
• Valid Kansas Class A CDL with tanker endorsement within 60 days of employment.
• Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather and lift up to 75 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment to perform maintenance and construction tasks.
• Assist supervisors with daily work assignments and paperwork.
• Pothole repair, crack sealing, street repair, curb and gutter maintenance, snow/ice removal, and street furniture maintenance.
• Inform residents about upcoming maintenance, road closures, and detours to minimize inconvenience.
• Maintain equipment and perform mechanical servicing on equipment.
• Other related duties as needed.
