Job summary

The City of Wichita is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator to maintain and construct municipal infrastructure. You will operate street sweepers, graders, backhoes, and other heavy equipment, often leading a crew and coordinating daily tasks.

The role requires two years of relevant experience, a valid Class A CDL with tanker endorsement within 60 days, and ability to work outdoors in varying weather. Pre-employment screening applies. Bargaining unit details and benefits provided.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years of experience operating heavy or specialized automotive equipment used in construction or maintenance activities.
• Valid Kansas Class A CDL with tanker endorsement within 60 days of employment.
• Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
• Pre-employment screening as required by City policies and laws.

Responsibilities

• Operates heavy equipment to perform maintenance and construction tasks.
• Lead the work of others in maintenance operations when assigned.
• Assist in daily task assignments and paperwork.
• Perform pothole repair, crack sealing, street repair, and curb/gutter maintenance.
• Communicate upcoming maintenance activities and detours to residents.
• Other related duties as needed.
