Job summary

City of Wichita is seeking a skilled equipment operator for heavy and specialized automotive equipment, with the possibility to supervise crew in maintenance and construction tasks. Work is performed primarily outdoors, with a night shift from 3:30 PM to 12:00 AM.

Requires two years of relevant experience, a valid driver's license, and a Kansas Class A CDL with tanker endorsement (60 days to obtain). Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience operating heavy or specialized automotive equipment used in construction or maintenance.
• A valid driver's license.
• Valid Kansas Class A CDL with tanker endorsement within 60 days of employment.
• If a Canadian or Mexican citizen, CDL from home country is required.
• Must be legally eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
• Preferred: Kansas Class A CDL with tanker endorsement.

Responsibilities

• Operates heavy equipment to perform assigned maintenance and construction tasks, including street sweepers, graders, backhoes, patch trucks, loaders, excavators, dump trucks and skid steers.
• Performs mechanical maintenance and service work on equipment.
• Assists supervisors with daily assignments and completion of paperwork.
• Performs pothole repair, crack sealing, street repair, curb and gutter repair, and snow/ice removal.
• Maintains street furniture and bike lanes; communicates about maintenance activities and detours.
• Works outdoors in various weather conditions and complies with safety requirements.
