Job summary

Liberty Mutual Insurance is seeking a Senior Technical Claims Specialist II to own complex environmental and commercial casualty claims from inception to resolution. You will determine coverage, set reserves, direct litigation, and negotiate settlements as a recognized subject‑matter expert.

In this senior role, you will mentor staff, coordinate with defense and coverage counsel, and collaborate with Underwriting and Reinsurance to manage emerging environmental exposures.

Qualifications

• 10+ years handling complex commercial casualty or environmental liability claims, including litigated matters.
• Deep knowledge of coverage analysis and environmental liability (e.g., pollution liability, CERCLA, remediation).
• Proven negotiation record on high‑exposure claims.
• Experience directing defense and coverage counsel.
• Strong communication skills and credibility to advise senior leaders.
• CPCU, AIC, ARM, or JD a plus; adjuster licensing as required.

Responsibilities

• Manage high‑severity environmental and commercial casualty claims end to end, including coverage determination, liability analysis, reserving, negotiation, and payment.
• Analyze policy language, exclusions, and environmental liability provisions to take well‑supported positions on complex coverage issues.
• Build resolution strategies, including discovery plans, reserve recommendations, and settlement approach.
• Assemble and direct the right team for each matter, including defense and coverage counsel, environmental consultants, Home Office Legal, and Home Office Claims.
• Partner with Underwriting, Reinsurance, and other business units.
• Mentor claims staff and advise Claims Management on developments affecting claims practices.
• Safeguard the integrity of claim payments and confidentiality of claim files.
