Job summary

Liberty Mutual Insurance is expanding its Environmental Claims team and seeks an experienced Environmental Claims Professional to manage high-exposure environmental, pollution, toxic tort, and mass litigation claims within our Commercial Specialty Lines portfolio.

The Senior Technical Claims Specialist will own the lifecycle from coverage analysis to litigation management, collaborating with policyholders, brokers, reinsurers, underwriting, and defense counsel while driving outcomes on

Qualifications

• 5-7 years of commercial casualty claims experience, including environmental or pollution claims handling.
• Proven ability to handle complex, litigated matters independently, including coverage analysis, reserving, and settlement negotiation.
• Strong command of environmental coverage issues, such as pollution liability, exclusions, and third-party bodily injury from contamination.
• Experience managing defense counsel and consultants.
• Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
• Advanced Environmental/Pollution Claims experience preferred; mass litigation or toxic tort experience required.
• Ability to obtain/maintain All-Lines Adjuster License.

Responsibilities

• Own the claim end to end: determine coverage, investigate, assess liability, set/adjust reserves, evaluate exposure, negotiate settlements, and authorize payment.
• Drive litigation strategy by reviewing pleadings and investigation materials, set plans to resolve each suit, including coverage positions and discovery plans.
• Build the right team for each matter by coordinating with Home Office Legal, defense counsel, and environmental consultants as needed.
• Manage outside counsel and oversee strategy, practices, and billing to align with outcomes.
• Protect the claim and data by maintaining file integrity and information security.
• Mentor colleagues and act as liaison to Underwriting, Reinsurance, and other business partners.
• Stay ahead of the law by tracking legislation and court decisions affecting pollution and other specialty coverages.
• Participate in special projects that shape team workflows and effectiveness.
