Job summary

Liberty Mutual Insurance seeks a Senior Technical Claims Specialist II to own high-severity environmental and commercial casualty claims from notice to resolution. You will determine coverage, set reserves, guide litigation, and negotiate settlements, influencing how we address emerging environmental exposures.

You will mentor claims staff, partner with underwriting and reinsurance, and collaborate with Legal. The role emphasizes autonomy, strategic judgment, and ed ucation support.

Qualifications

• 10+ years handling complex commercial casualty or environmental liability claims, including litigated matters.
• Deep knowledge of coverage analysis and environmental liability (pollution liability, CERCLA, remediation).
• Proven negotiation record on high-exposure claims.
• Experience directing defense and coverage counsel.

Responsibilities

• Manage high-severity environmental and commercial casualty claims end to end, including coverage determination, liability analysis, reserving, negotiation, and payment.
• Analyze policy language, exclusions, and environmental liability provisions to take well-supported positions on complex coverage issues.
• Build resolution strategies, including discovery plans, reserve recommendations, and settlement approach.
• Assemble and direct the right team for each matter, including defense and coverage counsel, environmental consultants, Home Office Legal, and Home Office Claims.
• Mentor claims staff and advise Claims Management on developments affecting claims practices.
