Klaviyo is seeking a senior technical leader to own enterprise scalability, performance, reliability, and multi-region readiness. Reporting to a VP of Engineering, you will be a senior individual contributor with no direct reports, guiding architecture and production improvements that matter to our customers.

You'll drive cross-team design decisions, establish measurable targets, and build repeatable patterns that make performance and reliability a natural part of daily engineering.

Qualifications

• Twelve+ years of engineering experience with record of removing bottlenecks.
• Strong performance and distributed systems expertise in SaaS.
• Ability to investigate unfamiliar systems and deliver changes safely.
• Sound technical judgment balancing immediate constraints with broader platform work.
• Leadership across organizational boundaries to align teams.
• Clear communication to engineers and executives.
• Practical AI fluency with hands-on use and guardrails.

Responsibilities

• Define scale readiness targets and SLAs with measurable metrics.
• Identify and fix bottlenecks using production data and benchmarks.
• Drive architectural changes for sharding, caching, back‑pressure, and multi-region readiness.
• Create reusable benchmarks and patterns for teams to adopt.
• Lead scalability reviews and establish safety release gates.
• Lead post-incident deep dives and root-cause analyses.
• Apply AI tooling for profiling, anomaly detection, and guided runbooks.
• Align engineering decisions with customer needs and business impact.
