b.well is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead the Data Interoperability team in the United States. You will drive strategic people leadership while staying close to technical details of FHIR, healthcare APIs, and data pipelines to ensure high-quality architectural decisions.

You will own the people and delivery strategy for a team building real-time data pipelines that connect thousands of health data sources.

Qualifications

8+ years in healthcare interoperability or health IT.
3+ years directly managing engineering or interoperability teams.
Experience scaling engineering teams and processes.
Experience partnering with Product, Clinical, Data Science, and other stakeholders.
5+ years with FHIR standards and implementations (FHIR R4).
Experience implementing Patient Access APIs and Bulk FHIR APIs.
Proficiency with SMART on FHIR and API security (OAuth 2.0, JWT, mTLS).
Strong knowledge of HL7 v2.x, CDA/C-CDA documents, and messaging systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ).
Proficiency in Python, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Go, or C#; SQL and NoSQL databases.

Responsibilities

Build, scale, and lead a team of data and interoperability engineers; hiring and onboarding.
Own performance management, career development, and growth planning for direct reports.
Coach engineers and team leads on technical judgment, communication, and delivery ownership.
Establish team culture, norms, and cross-functional processes for scalable growth.
Partner with Product, Clinical, Data Science, and other Engineering leaders to align priorities with strategy.
Drive technical strategy and oversee delivery of Patient Access APIs, Provider Directory APIs, and Bulk FHIR APIs.
Oversee connections to national networks and integrations across EMR and HIE/HIN systems.
Guide FHIR R4 and US Core Implementation Guide adoption; set architectural standards.
Oversee real-time data pipelines ingesting data from EMRs, wearables, IoT devices, and remote monitoring.
