Job summary

Ziply Fiber is seeking a Senior Manager, Engineering to lead teams designing scalable fiber networks and overseeing the entire engineering design process. You will manage internal staff and external partners to deliver construction-ready designs, maintain accurate OSP records, and drive innovation for large-scale deployment.

The role requires strategic leadership, vendor management, and expertise in fiber engineering to support expanding state-of-the-art networks and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Minimum eight years of progressive experience in fiber network engineering, including quoting, permitting, and other pre-construction activities.
• Minimum of three years in a leadership/people management capacity, with mentoring and managing engineering teams.
• Proven expertise in large-scale fiber design, route and build planning, permitting, and construction-ready deliverables.
• Strong understanding of GIS applications, CAD tools, asset management systems, and engineering workflows.
• Experience managing internal teams and third-party engineering vendors.
• Knowledge of permitting processes, regulatory requirements, and compliance for fiber deployments.
• Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and communicate effectively with executive leadership.
• Experience using fiber optic network documentation tools.
• Understanding of network engineering and inventory tools.
• Ability to travel occasionally (up to 10%).
• The schedule is Monday through Friday with weekend availability as needed.
• Must have and maintain a valid driver's license, auto insurance, and satisfactory driving record.

Responsibilities

• Provide end-to-end program direction to organize, develop, and execute program builds across multiple teams.
• Develop and execute fiber engineering design strategy aligned with expansion and deployment goals.
• Oversee end-to-end design processes including route planning, permitting, and regulatory compliance.
• Ensure designs are scalable, cost-efficient, and maintainable.
• Lead and mentor engineering managers, designers, and staff to deliver designs on schedule.
• Manage relationships with external vendors, contractors, and consultants.
• Foster accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the engineering org.
• Coordinate with construction, operations, product, and finance teams for deployment readiness.
• Align engineering design with business objectives and timelines.
• Establish and enforce design standards, documentation, and quality control.
• Oversee work orders, permitting applications, and compliance with standards, NESC, and municipal requirements.
