Job summary

Tectonic is actively seeking a Senior Engineering Geologist / Tunnel Engineer for a full-time, field-based assignment in New York City. The role supports underground construction on a design-build team, performing rock face mapping and rock mass evaluation during tunnel, cavern, and excavation activities.

The successful candidate will provide technical input on ground conditions, temporary rock support, and reinforcement systems such as shotcrete and rock bolts, with TBM and drill-and-blast

Qualifications

• Valid New York State Geologist (P.G.) or Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is required.
• Extensive experience in underground construction, including tunnels, caverns, shafts, and similar structures.
• Hands-on rock face mapping and rock mass characterization/stability evaluation.
• Experience with rock reinforcement methods (rock bolts, shotcrete, grouting).
• Familiarity with TBM and drill-and-blast tunneling methods preferred.
• Ability to interpret drawings, geologic information and construction documents.
• Strong writing and field documentation skills.
• Willingness to travel to project locations and interact with teams.

Responsibilities

• Perform detailed geologic and rock face mapping during excavation cycles.
• Evaluate rock mass conditions and overall stability.
• Provide field input on temporary support requirements.
• Contribute to shotcrete and rock bolt design adjustments.
• Inspect and evaluate underground constructions (tunnels, caverns, shafts).
• Document rock reinforcement and grouting activities; monitor deformation and vibration.
