Job summary

AECOM seeks an experienced Engineering Geologist to provide expert geological and geotechnical support for transportation projects in New Jersey and New York. You will perform field reconnaissance, site investigations, and develop geological models to support design and construction of tunnels, highways, and bridges.

Responsibilities include preparing detailed reports, collaborating with civil engineers, and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Geology or related field with six years of experience.
• Valid US Driver's License.
• Master’s degree preferred with 8 years geotechnical experience.
• Experience with underground structures (tunnels, shafts, caverns) and ground improvement preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform field reconnaissance and geological mapping to identify hazards.
• Inspect SOE reinforcement and rock mass grouting.
• Conduct site investigations including soil and rock testing.
• Develop geological models, cross-sections, and maps to support transportation design.
• Analyze geotechnical data and prepare risk assessments and reports.
• Collaborate with engineers and agencies (NJDOT) to integrate findings into designs.
• Ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
• Oversee fieldwork logistics and drilling operations, monitoring instrumentation.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Engineering Geology, Geological Engineering, Civil Engineering (with a geotechnical focus), or a related field

Master’s degree in Engineering Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, Soil/Rock Mechanics, or Hydrogeology
