Job summary

Tectonic Engineering is seeking a full-time Senior Engineering Geologist / Tunnel Engineer for a high-profile assignment in New York City, based in Forest Hills, NY. This field-based role supports underground construction as part of the design-build team.

Responsibilities include rock face mapping, rock mass evaluation, and providing input on ground conditions, temporary rock support, shotcrete, and rock bolts for TBM and drill-and-blast tunneling methods.

Qualifications

• New York State P.G. or P.E. license required.
• Extensive underground construction experience.
• Experience with rock face mapping and rock mass evaluation.
• Experience with rock reinforcement methods (bolts, shotcrete).
• Familiarity with TBM and drill‑and‑blast tunneling methods.

Responsibilities

• Conduct rock mass mapping after excavation.
• Assess rock quality and temporary support needs.
• Collaborate with tunnel engineers on shotcrete/rock bolts.
• Prepare field reports and geologic maps.
• Review plans and specifications.
• Travel to project sites as required.
