Job summary

Beacon Software seeks an experienced engineer to join 99Pledges as the sole engineer responsible for architecture, deployments, incidents, and vendor calls. You will automate aggressively and decide what to build with the GM, product team, and customers.

You will own money-related flows, from donations to payouts, ensuring robust reconciliation across providers. The role rewards initiative and strong end-to-end ownership, with limited oversight and fast iteration.

Qualifications

• Senior generalist with cross-domain expertise across web, data, infra and AI.
• Experience handling payments, payouts, reconciliation, or fraud tooling.
• Led or owned a system end-to-end (design, build, deploy, on-call, customer contact).
• Strong Postgres modeling, tuning, and migrations with large tables.
• Shipped LLM features to production (retrieval, evals, guardrails).
• Introduced trunk-based development, automated tests, and disciplined environments.
• Able to assess technical debt and distinguish costly issues from minor clutter.
• Strong written communication for async teams and customers.

Responsibilities

• Set the roadmap with the GM, product team, and customers, turning priorities into a plan.
• Manage money flows: donations, payouts, reconciliation across providers, retries, and webhooks.
• Integrate AI into the product: evals, guardrails, tenant-safe tools.
• Automate and own your own work end-to-end with minimal handoff.
• Promote engineering discipline: trunk-based development, CI, staging on synthetic data, feature flags, testing.
• Leave a codebase, tests, and docs ready for future engineers to take over.
• Address fraud and abuse: detection, device fingerprinting, and safeguarding donors/schools.
• Monitor costs: audit cloud/vendor spend and optimize where possible.
• Communicate with operators, admins, and partners directly.
• Own uptime: alerting, response, and post-incident follow-up.
