Job summary

Promise is seeking an Engineering Lead to guide the technical vision of our Payment Plans platform, the engine of our business. You will lead a high-performing team, scale the platform, and build workflows to meet growing demand from cities, states, and utilities nationwide.

You will set direction, ensure secure, scalable systems, and empower teams to deliver impactful features that help families stay on track with flexible installments and smart reminders, while upholding Promise’s

Qualifications

• 6+ years building and scaling production software, including at least 2 years leading teams or projects.
• Track record of setting technical direction and delivering ambitious goals.
• Strong background in backend systems, design, and secure architecture.
• Follows improvements in AI and emerging tech and applies them where useful.
• Experience with legacy or third‑party systems (government, fintech, or regulated industries a plus).

Responsibilities

• Lead by doing: build alongside the team and know the product intimately.
• Own the roadmap with Product and Design for usable, scalable features.
• Build for scale and trust to support governments and utilities nationwide.
• Elevate resident experience with flexible installments, reminders, and personalized plans.
• Stay hands-on with debugging production issues and optimizing performance.
• Automate where it matters using AI and reducing operational overhead.
• Collaborate with Customer Success and Operations for reliable deployments.
• Raise the bar by defining standards for quality and reliability.
